Portrait

Depth of Field:
In this photo the depth of field is very deep.  I think that if the depth of field may have been shorter it could have made the background less distracting.  Although now that it is like that there is nothing you can do about it.  Since the playground equipment is a dark brown it does make the two girls in the bright red stick out more.  With the deep depth of field it incorporates leading lines.

Exposure:
The exposure of the image is good, although I do think its a little bright.  In the picture I shot with an aperture of f/8 and a shutter speed of 1/250 if i would have maybe opened the aperture to f/4.5 and moved the shutter speed to 1/300 then this image would have has a shorter depth of field.  This may have also darkened the picture slightly, making this a better exposure and overall picture.

Lighting:
In this photo there was natural diffused light from the clouds.  In this picture it was coming from above and the upper right corner of the picture, because it is a tilted picture.  One of the down sides to that is less shadows, but it is easier to take pictures because there isn't such a bright direct light.  Something that helped the lighting look a little brighter by not slowing down the shutter speed was an ISO of 200.  This helped lighten the picture wile at the same time not allowing too much digital noise!

Lines:
In this photo I see many lines, not just lines made by shapes but balance lines too.  One balance line I see is the difference between the one subject wearing the white bottoms and the lighter red top and the other subject wearing the dark red jeans but there is less of them showing I feel that this helps balance.  Another line of balance I see is the balance between the dark wood and the light wood chips spread throughout.  An actual rule of lines I see being used, is rule of thirds, i see the subjects on 2/3 of the picture and the wood chip wood balance on the other half.

Colors:
In this photo I didn't do much editing so this is a realistic color scheme. One reason I used the realistic color scheme was to make the picture look more like the subjects dont see the camera.  Also the picture could happen with out the camera even being there.    Something I set up was the use of one subject wearing the red pants and the white top and the other wearing a red top and white pants. I feel this created a scence of  balance.

Composition:
In this picture rule of thirds was used.  I see this rule in play because the subjects are on the lower 2/3 of the picture, they take up 2/3 vertically and horizontally.  THe other rule I see is the leading lines.  The lines of the structure lead into the subjects faces.  I think that it leads more because of the multiple rungs on each play exhibit.

  1. I love this print! What I believe is so great about it is the grayscale it has. From what I can see, it does not look like the photo has any dust particles, scratches, ect. This means that Lindsay was very careful when going about handling her film. How the girl is posed in this shot is different, but yet, still natural. I love the simplicity of this photo, and it is simple for the viewer’s eyes to go right to the subject each time. Right when I look at it, my eyes go right to the girl.
The only thing that I, personally, could really find wrong with this, it that it may be just a bit too plane. Although, as I said before, I really enjoy how simple the room it is. Perhaps others may perceive it to be too little going ion, but I really continue to like the picture. The top begins dark, then goes on to be lighter the farther your eyes draw down the shot. I really love the contrast present in the picture, as well as the sharp amount of focus! Ob well done! ☺
